Vision

There is tremendous power in the way my work flows onto the canvas, by which the essence of my being freely takes on its rightful and expressive form. My works are the fruit of a relentlessly intuitive approach. Unfiltered, they are firmly based in my unwavering trust in a continuing creative process. All manner of images constantly appear to my mind’s eye. It is my task to allow them into being, conveying them onto canvas or paper. These images present themselves in their immediate shape and colour. They can shimmer and glow, setting of their hues, always possessing a distinct form in space. I go over them in my mind, and when I’m ready I set them down in all detail, making sure the colours are exactly as I envisioned them. I constantly capture the visual equivalent of my emotions when confronted with nature, life, and motherhood.

In my work there is always a play on the flatness of the canvas, even allowing the canvas itself to become part of the work. I love the texture of the linen, the natural fibres open and pure in their opaqueness, the way the light plays on it. Then by contrast, I allow my paints to glow and sometimes glint against it, obtaining a material balance that seems just right. The use of gold, silver, and copper hues enhances this effect, and to me these are not simple light effects, but colours in their own right. They broaden my already multi-coloured palette of deeply saturated colours. Regarding the given flatness of any canvas, I like to play a bit, by setting of areas of evenly applied paint against those with a thicker impasto. This way the brushstrokes seem to expand and contract, suggesting a vibrant texture that seems almost tangible. In works on paper I seek out this same lively balance of materials and textures, always making sure ample light and life seep in.

As a child I suffered a severe internal eye infection, affecting my eyesight in one eye. I have always accepted this as a mere fact. Yet when reflecting on my work, I realize it allows me to see the world in a different way. When perspective is conditionally three-dimensional, looking for an inner perspective becomes second nature. To me the world is a vast plane of contrasting shapes and forms, glistening colours, and living textures. It is a lively place, filled with boundless energy and love in all its tremendous and sometimes horrendous shapes and forms. Endlessly appearing, constantly changing, ever fulfilling. Being allowed to share my vision of authentic beauty, acceptance, love and light with you and the universe, is my greatest joy. Let’s unite beyond cultural and conceptual labels, and definitions that keep us separate. The cycle complete.
